We’ve certainly had our fair share of rain, but luckily we’ve been able to keep sourcing good Marlborough mussels. Often in heavy periods or rainfall you can expect a fair amount of land “run off” which will obviously impact on the quality of the water (sediment etc). There’s a really comprehensive rainfall monitoring system that ensures mussel harvesting only takes place in farms that have not been impacted by recent rainfall. This ensures the high quality of the mussels are maintained and they are fresh and delectable to eat.
