The Hairy Mussel Company is focused on fresh, good quality seafood products.
Our speciality is mussels, where we operate a unique controlled process to ensure mussels arrive at their final destination fresh and of exceptional quality with minimal waste and breakages.

Comprehensive Food Safety Program

We also operate under a comprehensive Food Safety Program administered by the NZ Food Safety Authority.
Those products that we source from other suppliers are only sourced from suppliers that are passionate about their own products, operate ethically and also operate a comprehensive Food Safety Program.

A key aspect of the Hairy Mussel Company’s operation is its extensive distribution network. We continue to monitor and explore innovative ways to improve.

Greenshelltm Mussels

The Hairy Mussel Company supplies mussels from the Marlborough Sounds throughout the North Island and South Island.

We currently supply 4 days per week – Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Saturday delivery charge applies)

Types of packaging and sizing include:

  • Polybins with Ice Gel – 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 20kg, 25kg
  • Leak proof Cartons – 25kg (we are working on a 15kg carton as well)

Ordering

Orders are taken up until 2pm on the day previous to our packing days, which are Monday, Wednesday,Thursday and Friday . (This allows us to always ensure you get the freshest mussels -as we rarely hold mussels in stock)

Info For Restaurants

We can supply any order size from a single fresh sea run Salmon, 5kg of fresh live mussels in a polybin, a pottle of juicy Oysters to much larger bulk sizes, any quantities at all that will suit your Restaurant business. Our distribution networks allow delivery of fresh product nationwide.

Mussels make a great dish for any menu

Mussels look spectacular, they are easy to prepare and more importantly they work out to be a low cost food item.

We have an extensive distribution system which means we can deliver fresh mussels straight to your kitchen.

We currently harvest and pack mussels on the Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They are then delivered overnight and in to your kitchen by 9.00am. So the actual delivery days are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (Saturday delivery charge applies).
